A teenager with suspected mental health problems has been banned from Walthamstow Marshes after flashing five women over four days last summer.
Nathaniel Mundle, 19, of Oulton Close, Hackney, appeared at Snaresbrook Crown Court on 21 January and was banned from the N11 postcode and Walthamstow Marshes, and from leaving his home between 9pm and 7am.
Mundle was due to be sentenced but Judge Martyn Zeidman ordered an assessment of his mental state and delayed sentencing until after its completion.
The court heard that between 10-13 July last year Mundle exposed himself to five separate women close to the nature reserve, including a young mother out cycling with her child.
Mundle had been remanded in custody since his arrest on 17 July, and admitted at a hearing at Thames’ Magistrates Court on 20 July to four counts of “exposing his genitals to cause alarm and distress” on Walthamstow Marshes and a fifth charge of indecent exposure in Coppermill Mill, Walthamstow.
The teenager admitted to the five charges after police found clothing described by the victims at his home.
In court Judge Zeidman said he hoped to pass a suspended sentence or community order rather than keep Mundle in prison.
“However much you want to do so you have to stop exposing yourself,” he said. “If you ever do so again you will be back in prison for a very long time so you must stop.
“I have absolutely no doubt that you need help. You do not need further punishment, especially as you have been in prison for so long.”
The judge granted Mundle bail so that his mental state can be assessed.
Mundle is due to be sentenced at Snaresbrook Crown Court on 10 February.
