A man from Hackney has been charged with terrorism offences, the Metropolitan Police has announced.

Alaettin Kalender, 50, was charged with possessing information useful for terrorist purposes.

In a separate prosecution, Ayfer Yildiz, a 45-year-old woman from St John’s Wood was charged with two counts of encouraging others to commit a terrorist offence.

Yildiz is said to have distributed two editions of a magazine called Yürüyüş which is believed to glorify acts of terrorism in Turkey.

Kalender and Yildiz have been bailed to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 4 October.

They were arrested in what has been described as a proactive operation by the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command.
