More than two thirds of arrests for rape offences do not result in a prosecution, according to Hackney Police figures.

A Freedom of Information request has revealed that between 2010 and 2012 a total of 189 arrests were made, but 130 – 68 per cent – ended with no further action being taken.

Six offenders received a police caution for the crime.

Arrests for sexual offences totalled 253 over the three years, with 12 offenders being given a caution and 121 resulting in no further action.

A Hackney Police spokesperson said the Metropolitan Police is striving to arrest and prosecute as many rapists as possible.
