New family event Land of Kids hopes to bring some festival magic to the borough this May Day bank holiday.
The festival, which takes place on Monday 5 May, is being organised by the same team behind annual music and arts festival, Land of Kings.
Festival Director Connie Harrison says: “Similar to Land of Kings, we wanted to bring together some of the best of the area’s arts and cultural groups for a very local festival, but for a different audience. For Land of Kids we’re putting together an afternoon of curiosities that will hopefully be magical for Hackney’s kids but fun for parents too.”
Set across a cluster of venues including the Arcola Theatre, Dalston Roof Park and Café Oto, the festival will also see several urban spaces become temporary venues, creating a part-indoor, part-outdoor site around Ashwin Street.
Programme highlights include ‘rave for folks with kids’ Disco Loco, the Cut-a-Shine hoe-down and Lost & Found’s ‘Pirate School’, which promises a series of challenges such as ‘Parrot Crufts’ and ‘Walking the Plank’.
Immersive theatre specialists Punchdrunk Enrichment bring their other worldly wonder, and up-and-coming comedy duo Robin & Partridge will host ‘Speed Birthday Parties’, squeezing kids’ parties into fifteen minutes of fun.
Elsewhere, there will be mini-music videos, made-to-order poems by The Poetry Takeaway, ‘reggae’ nursery rhymes and a food market curated by Street Feast.
