Arsonists and vandals have caused up to £20,000 worth of damage to public loos in Haggerston Park, resulting in their closure while repairs take place.

Hackney Council says the toilets will be shut for at least a month.

The men’s toilets were attacked with a hammer, resulting in two of the three cisterns being smashed, and the women’s loos were set on fire.

The incident is thought to have occurred on 18 November.

Anyone with information is being urged to contact police.
